Sharks by Lewi

Sharks have been some of my favourite animals for most of my life. They have been a passion of mine, especially the whale shark. I like writing about them, drawing them, researching them and watching documentaries about them. Whale sharks are now quite rare, and have become vulnerable in Australian waters due to over fishing and polluted oceans, marine debris and tourism.

There’s one thing that really gets me angry and that’s cruelty to animals. The other thing is shark fishing. Catching one or two sharks for food I’m not against. Taking one or two sharks out of the ocean and eating them isn’t going to do much harm to the ecosystem. But, catching large numbers of sharks and cutting their fins off and throwing them, still alive, back into the ocean to rot, really makes me angry.

Since I was about 4 I have wanted to be a marine biologist and work for Greenpeace. So for a long time now I’ve been wanting to help sharks and stop the  senseless killing of them.

People also kill sharks for fun and because they think that sharks are too dangerous to be in the ocean. But let me tell you this, don’t go into their territory and they won’t bite you. Simple. They were here first.

I hope that people start to think about what they are doing and stop the thoughtless killing of sharks.
